Three-peat: Flagler Venoms win Orlando league
For the third straight time, the Flagler Venoms won the Orlando Dek Hockey championship, topping the River City Whalers, 5-3, on April 13.

Lady Bulldogs fall in district championship
The Flagler Palm Coast flag football team lost to Palatka, 21-12, in the district championship Wednesday, ending the Lady Bulldogs’ season.

FPC (3-9) trailed at halftime, 7-6, but took held a 12-7 lead after three quarters. Palatka scored its final 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Ivana Boyd and Maeve Dineen both returned interceptions for touchdowns.

Matanzas baseball falls to Ponte Vedra in semis
Ponte Vedra plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday en route to a 5-0 win over Matanzas in the District 4-5A baseball semifinals.

The Sharks added two more runs in the fourth inning.

Matanzas pitcher Tyler Stuart allowed five runs (four earned) in five innings of work, striking out three and walking seven. Stuart allowed just three hits.

The Matanzas batters couldn’t seem to figure out Ponte Vedra starter Matt Deegan, who threw a five-hit complete game shutout, tallying 12 strikeouts to go with one walk.

Josh Alvarado went 2-for-3, and Spencer Dennis and Tyler Walls both went 1-for-3.

Matanzas finished the season 8-16.

Youngsters compete in pitch, hit, run competition
Area youth competed Saturday, April 20, in the Flagler Sheriff’s PAL Major League Baseball pitch, hit and run competition.
