A captivated crowd of hair stylists gathered around nationally known stylist Pablo Alvarado Monday, at Industry Salon, as he demonstrated how to use fall and winter colors to spice up hairstyles.

Tony Hayes, an Ormond Beach native who manages the business his sister opened six months ago, said he invited Alvarado, who performs on stages at hair shows around the country and works for Wella, a top color line, in order to help “get established in the community.”

Stylists from throughout the area, and even from St. Augustine, attended the event to watch and learn.

“Pablo is one of the ‘hot designers’ right now,” Hayes said. “He’s great. He’s got a great personality and interacts with the stylists.”

The name of Hayes' new salon fits its clean and contemporary décor, giving the establishment an upscale look.

“You get everyday cuts in an upscale setting,” Hayes said. “We use salon-only brands and cater to people with high expectations.”

Hayes plans to host education events for stylists every six months, with an expert once a year.

New hire

Industry Salon Manager Tony Hayes also hired “industry superstar” stylist Tracey Nugent to staff last month. Nugent is known around the country for her work as a brand representative at trade shows, Hayes says, as well as a consultant and educator.

Nugent is also currently working on introducing a personal line of educational books and videos about fashion, focusing on the main theme of "fun and functional."

“I truly love what I do,” Nugent said.
