Police officers stormed Ormond Beach Middle School last week, to train in campus-violence simulations, including an active-shooter scenario.

The Ormond Beach Police Department prepared last week for the start of a new school year by simulating a 12-hour active-shooter scenario at Ormond Beach Middle School.
While classes were still out for summer vacation, officers filled the school’s halls, learning how to respond and take action in order to isolate incidents where violence or shooting might be involved on campus.
They also studied the school’s layout and floor plans, following its recent renovations.
Included in training activities were movement drills, building searches and engaged shooters using training pistols that shoot paint ball-like projectiles.
In order to stay up to date on updated protocols and procedures, officers train at the police department, locations throughout the community and at the Daytona State College Emergency Services Institute.
