Chamber golf tourney draws 130

A total of 130 golfers from all over Volusia County made the trek last month to the Port Orange-South Daytona Chamber of Commerce’s annual golf tournament at LPGA International — Champions Course, 1000 Champions Drive, in Daytona Beach.

Benefitting the Port Orange-South Daytona Chamber of Commerce, the event was sponsored by Bright House, the Florida Power & Light Co., Halifax Health Medical Center, Jeff Evans – State Farm Insurance, Caton Hosey Nationwide Insurance, Giles Electric and Blake Thomas State Farm Insurance.

Elks golf tourney: Aug. 31

Elks on the fairway?! Oh, it’s happening, Saturday, Aug. 31, when the Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193 sponsor its 24th-annual charity golf tournament, at Riverbend Golf Club.

Open to all golfers, the tournament’s $55 cost includes a cart, green fees, roving beverage cart and lunch. Prizes will be awarded to the top four teams. Number of players is limited. Partial team entries accepted.

Sign up now: charity, night, Glo-Ball golfing

The Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council 8791 will host its nine-hole, four-player scramble Knight Glo-Ball Tournament Friday, Sept. 6, at the Club at Pelican Bay North Course, in Daytona Beach. There will be a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m.

A player fee of $75 includes golf, dinner, prizes and an extra cart-fee-only future round of play at Pelican Bay.

Hole sponsorships are available for $100. The tournament is BYOF (Bring Your Own Flashlight).

Watch a local toss the old pigskin on national TV

Seabreeze High School 2011 graduate John Christopher is now a sophomore wide receiver on Temple University’s football team, in Pennsylvania. Watch Christopher, No. 7, strut his stuff on national TV, when Temple plays Notre Dame 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, on NBC.

Playing 11 games last season as a freshman, Christopher scored his first career touchdown against Syracuse. He was a three-time letter winner at Seabreeze. His parents are Louann and John Christopher, of Ormond Beach.

2nd Team: Kenneth Staton, Jim Baliker, Tim Lehnhoff, John Graper, Jim Vodenicker, Dennis Simons, Sam Bass, Jerry Phillips 125 (Tie)

Low Net: John Lemmrish 63
