Injuries and an early season schedule loaded with tough games have been the early season theme for the Flagler Palm Coast girls soccer team. But coach Pete Hald still has his team playing in form.

That’s nothing new.

The Lady Bulldogs are off to an 12-2-1 start. One of the two losses was a 4-2 loss to defending Class 2A state champion Ocala Trinity Catholic.

In that game, starting defending Kaelin Cote suffered an ankle injury. Sarah DiLoreto has also been nursing a knee injury.

“We are doing well except for a few serious injuries,” Hald said Monday.

Over the Thanksgiving break last week, the Lady Bulldogs played in the Nike Invitational Tournament, in Clearwater. FPC won all three of their groups games: 3-1 against Wharten (Tampa), 2-1 against Steinbrenner (Tampa) and 2-1 against Seminole (Osceola).

FPC advanced to the finals and lost 2-1 to East Lake (Tarpon Springs). The Lady Bulldogs had plenty of chances in the second half, Hald said, but the team gave up a late, game-winning goal on a corner kick.

Christen Barney leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and nine assists (29 points). DiLoreto has nine goals and four assists, and Tanagna Payne has six goals and nine assists.

In total, FPC has 46 goals for and 13 goals against. Lady Bulldogs keeper Leah Leach tallied 21 saves over four tournament games during the break.

FPC will play in the Julie Weber Memorial Classic Dec. 13-14, in Lake Mary.
