The Flagler County Chamber today announced that Georgia Turner, vice president of Tourist Development since November 2011, has resigned. Turner, through an unexpected chain of events, has accepted a new position in her hometown of Florence, Ala.

Turner will become communications manager for the Florence-Lauderdale Tourism Office (visitflorenceal.com) starting in January 2014.

“I have been honored to be Palm Coast & the Flagler Beaches’ VP of tourism the past two years,” Turner said in a press release. “I’m very proud of what our local tourism industry has accomplished in that short time. However, throughout my career — no matter where I’ve been — I’ve promoted my home area in north Alabama. I’m grateful to have the chance to do that on a full-time basis and be close to my family. Like the song says, ‘My home’s in Alabama no matter where I lay my head.’ It’s tough to leave friends and colleagues here, but I'm thrilled to go home.”

Rebecca DeLorenzo, president of the Flagler County Chamber, said, “We will miss Georgia greatly. She has been a positive influence within our organization and Flagler County as a whole. Her tireless enthusiasm in promoting our community and her contagious optimism have been inspirational to so many. We can't thank her enough for all she has done, both personally and professionally, and we are happy she has a chance to do what she loves in her own hometown. We wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.”

Flagler County Tourism Development Council and Flagler County Commissioner Nate McLaughlin said, “We are sad to see Georgia leaving our organization. She has been a tremendous asset in sustaining and expanding tourism in Flagler County.”

Turner joined the chamber in November 2011. Prior to working with the chamber, she was the director of specialized markets for Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and also owned her own marketing and public relations agency. Turner is also a former director of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Association.

Turner's last day at the Chamber will be Dec. 31.

With the announcement of Turner’s resignation, the chamber will begin to search for a new vice president of Tourist Development immediately. A complete job description and candidate qualifications will be posted on Employflorida.com and LinkedIn. Interested candidates should follow instructions on these sites for consideration. No phone calls or emails, please.
