Joseph Bernhard, a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Ave Maria University, in Ave Maria.
Bernhard, who pitches and plays first base for the Bulldogs, has a 4.4 GPA and is planning to study physical therapy in college.
“Joe-Joe is an incredible high school athlete,” FPC coach Jordan Butler said. “He is the total package of a player, person and student. He has an unbelievable work ethic and drive that has gotten him to this point of his baseball career, and it’s going to take him to the top of whatever career field he decides to follow.”
The Ave Maria University Gyrenes are a Division II member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and compete in The Sun Conference.

Roll on: Long-distance skateboard event coming to town in January
Long-distance skateboarders will roll through town — literally — in the New Year.
The International Distance Skateboard Association will bring the Flagler Skate Vacation to Palm Coast 8 a.m. Jan. 4.
The Skate Vacation is a long-distance skateboard race that will take participants along roads and trails throughout Palm Coast and Flagler Beach.
The Flagler County tourism staff partnered with the International Distance Skateboard Association to bring the event to Flagler County through a $7,500 grant approved by the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners.
Three different events will be offered, too. There will be a half marathon (13.1 miles), a beginner course (1.7 miles) and a chance to set the world record in the one-mile event. The world record is 3 minutes, 35 seconds, which is held by Steven Sanche.
Event registration is available online or in person 6-9 p.m. Jan. 3, at a kickoff party to be held at the Golden Lion Café, 500 N. Oceanshore Blvd., in Flagler Beach.
A portion of the registration fees will be donated to a local nonprofit.
