Shana Taulbee, a senior at Flagler Palm Coast High School, signed her National Letter of Intent to bowl at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, in Birmingham, Ala.
Taulbee led the Lady Bulldogs to a district championship this season and a ninth-place finish out of 65 teams at the state tournament. Taulbee finished ninth in the state as an individual.
The Blazers bowling team began in 2011. UAB is a NCAA Division I member and competes in Conference USA.
Taulbee plans to major in criminal justice and psychology.
Girls hoops: FPC 63, First coast 38
The Lady Bulldogs continue to roll. FPC topped First Coast, 63-38, on Friday night to improve to 10-3 and 3-2 in District 1-8A play.
Shanika Gardner led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, eight rebounds, five steals and one assist.
Christina Aiello added 13. Shanteria Few dropped nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds to go with four steals, two assists and two blocks.
Monsanto’s late goal leads FPC past University
Flagler Palm Coast junior Nate Monsanto found the back of the net in the 70th minute last week, leading the Bulldogs past University, 1-0, in a boys soccer district match.
Stanley Joseph provided the assist on a cross. Monsanto has netted 12 goals and dished out seven assists. He leads the Bulldogs with 31 points. Joseph is second on the team with 22.
FPC (8-1-2, 4-1 District 2-5A) has now compiled three clean sheets in five district games. The Bulldogs are tied with Spruce Creek for the No. 1 seed with one district game to play.
FPC coaches praised the play of defender Gabe Orren in the game against University. Orren also got involved in the offense as an attacking back.
Last call to golf in Family Life Center tourney
Fewer than 20 openings remain to compete in the 21st-annual Family Life Center golf tournament, which will take place Jan. 13, at The Conservatory Course.
Register online at flcsafehouse.org. Cost is $80 and includes lunch, dinner, water and soft drinks, green fees, cart fees and a goodie bag. The tournament, which uses the Modified Buick Scramble format, begins at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament is a fundraiser for the Family Life Center, which is a private, not-for-profit social service organization that provides services at no cost to families experiencing domestic violence.
