Some big changes are coming to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in 2014.
District 3, the district that oversees northeast Volusia, will be relocating to Ormond Beach in an effort to be more centrally located to the population it serves. VSCO signed the 10-year lease on Dec. 19.
The office, which is currently located in Holly Hill, will move to MBA Business Center on North U.S. 1 in May 2014. District 3 is home to about approximately 80 personnel, including patrol deputies, investigators, office and command staff and school crossing guards.
"We want to be closer to the population we serve in northeast Volusia," Public Information Officer Gary Davidson said. "So it will be more convenient and closer to the citizens that we serve."
According to the Sheriff's Office press release, the building renovations will cost $350,000. A total of $200,000 of the renovation funds will come from assets seized in criminal cases, and the rest has been incorporated into the rent schedule, which starts in the first year at $6,097 per month.
A memo presented to the County Council stated that “the new lease location will optimize response times and provide a building tailored to better meet their needs.”
