Eddie Johnson has been the poster child of Flagler County soccer players.

He has played in the FIFA World Cup. He’s played professionally in the U.S. and England. Earlier this month, his scoring output demanded more money, and so D.C. United paid up and acquired him via trade from the Seattle Sounders.

Two years ago, Johnson was named the MLS Comeback Player of the Year after he netted 14 goals in 24 starts for the Sounders. Last season, he scored nine goals.

But the thing to watch for is this summer, when Johnson is hopefully a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team squad that travels to Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

There’s no reason to think he won’t be a member of the team. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann has selected Johnson to his squad throughout World Cup qualifying.

Since 2004, Johnson has scored 19 goals in 59 appearances for his country.

Welcome back to the East Coast, Eddie Johnson.
