Holiday hoops: Father Lopez hosts basketball tourney

Sixteen teams competed in the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament over the weekend.

Many might be off from school for the holidays, but 16 teams were hard at work over the weekend competing in the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament.

On Saturday night, the Father Lopez girls hoops team lost to Astronaut, 48-29.

Immediately following the girls' game, the Father Lopez boys team lost a close game to a tough Bishop Kenny team, 63-53. Junior point guard Malik Maitland dropped 36 points for the Green Wave, who fell to 7-5 on the season with the loss.

The boys team will head south to compete in the Southwest Miami Shootout Jan. 3-4.

The girls team will have off until it hosts Warner Christian on Jan. 7 in a District 5-3A game.
