A Palm Coast man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shattering a glass display case at the Walmart in Palm Coast and attempting to steal video games within the case.
A Flagler County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the store just before 2:30 a.m. and interviewed a witness, who said he watched Russell Weber pulling on a glass display case in the store’s electronics department. As Russell was pulling on the case, the witness said, its glass shattered and Russell selected five video games.
Weber allegedly removed the video game discs from their packaging and concealed them in the pocket of his pants. He then left the store.
A short time later, Weber returned to the store according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report. The witness called the Sheriff’s Office, and a responding deputy made contact with Russell in the store’s hardware department.
Weber told the deputy he had broken the display case on purpose because his girlfriend had threatened to call Weber's probation officer and violate his probation. The report says Weber “did (his girlfriend) a favor” by breaking the display case. The video games were not on Weber’s person, and he would not divulge their location.
The deputy discovered that Weber was on felony probation for felony battery and robbery with a deadly weapon. He is a violent felony offender, the report states. Weber was placed under arrest for felony criminal mischief and felony violation of probation.
There is no bond set on Weber’s violation of probation charge.
