The other day, I joked with a few people that I should set up a cot in the press box at FPC because I was such a frequent visitor.
Between girls soccer, boys soccer, girls basketball and boys basketball, I’ve been nonstop at area high school games over the past few weeks. Since we can’t always cover every team and every single game, here’s a recap of things that have happened recently in community sports.
Several youth wrestlers competed last weekend at the AAU state championships.
The Old Kings Wrestling Club competed in Bradenton. Dalton Schell and A.J. Cinelli were both state champions, Ronald Dimplefair finished second and Mac Cinelli finished third.
The team is coached by Josh Ward. For more, go to www.oldkingswrestling.com.
Also, wrestlers from Flagler Team Attack competed at Manatee High School. Anthony Mascarella and Seth Armstrong both finished second, Storm Bauder took fourth place and James Richards finished fifth. The team is coached by FPC wrestling coaches Tom Bartolotta and T.J. Gillin.
For anyone interested in spring wrestling, there will be a parent meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 13, in the 800 gym at Flagler Palm Coast High School. Contact Bartolotta at [email protected] or 386-219-9802.
Also, the FC United U14 girls team took first place Jan. 20, in the Savannah Girls Rock soccer tournament.
The team went 4-0 over the weekend, scoring 14 goals and allowing just one.
“The girls played possession soccer and stellar defense throughout the tournament,” assistant coach Mike Giuliano said.
The team, which is coached by FPC girls soccer coach Pete Hald and assistants Giuliano and Megann Schooley, is ranked No. 17 in the state, Giuliano said.
Last, kudos to the Flagler Palm Coast girls basketball team, which presented the National Multiple Sclerosis Scoeity with a check for more than $400 Wednesday night. The team raised the money by auctioning off an autographed basketball signed by the Orlando Magic.
