FPC falls to Sandalwood in girls hoops semifinals
Flagler Palm Coast went 7-for-19 from the free throw line Wednesday night, eventually losing to Sandalwood, 49-43, in the District 1-8A semifinals.
FPC ended its season 18-7 and won’t appear in the district championship game for the first time in three seasons. FPC had appeared in the previous three district championships under coach Javier Bevacqua.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed at halftime, 28-24, and managed to score only six points in the third quarter.
Armani Walker dropped a double-double with 14 points, 10 steals, eight rebounds and five assists. Ivana Boyd added 12 points, five rebounds, two assist and four steals.
Bevacqua said he went to the full-court press and forced turnovers, but missed layups and free throws doomed his team.
“Like I told the team, it stings,” Bevacqua said. “But this is the evolution of a good team. You have to go through these things. All good teams that win go through these tough losses, and we’re a young team. Something great is coming.”
