But wait, there’s more
10:54 a.m. — Intersection of Fleming Avenue and Nova Road. Violation of probation. The defendant rear-ended another vehicle with his car, and then admitted to police officers that he was on probation.
According to the report, the defendant said he knew his parole officer would revoke his parole for the accident and asked for leniency. The officers ran a check of the defendant’s driver’s license, which revealed it had been suspended. The defendant’s parole officer, when contacted by police, told them to pick the defendant up for violation of parole.
The defendant, who was placed on probation Jan. 17 for trafficking in stolen property, was taken into custody. However, the other driver in the crash told police someone in the defendant’s vehicle had thrown baggies and a crack pipe out the window after the crash.
The police said “broken glass fragments consistent with a crack pipe and burnt chore boy” were found near the defendant’s vehicle window. Police noted the defendant had “glassy, bloodshot eyes and ‘thick-tongued’ speech.”
Since the 47-year-old defendant used a cane, no field sobriety test could be conducted. The officer conducted a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus at the police station, which did not indicate alcohol impairment. The defendant was turned over to the Volusia County Branch Jail.

No thanks, I'd rather not get pulled over today
10:10 — Intersection of Division Avenue and Grove Street. Traffic Stop. An Ormond Beach police initiated a traffic stop, after running a vehicle's tag number and finding it had expired. The stop occurred at the intersection of Division Avenue and South Beach Street.
At this intersection, the vehicle came to a stop, and the officer said the driver threw his hands into the air. The officer then got out of his patrol car to make contact with the driver. Once the officer got in front of his patrol car, the driver accelerated and turned northbound on South Beach Street, at normal speeds, the officer said.
The officer notified dispatch of a fleeing vehicle, got back into his patrol car and pursued the vehicle. The officer said the vehicle turned into Ames Park, 195 S. Beach St., and then came to stop. The officer approached the vehicle and the driver told him he didn’t want to get pulled over on the side of the road, and he hadn’t seen the officer already out of his patrol car.
The driver was given a criminal citation for driving on a suspended driver's license, and also cited for an expired registration.
