A nearly one-mile section of the St. Joe Walkway trail in the vicinity of Linear Park and the Palm Coast Community Center will be closed beginning Feb. 25 for 10 weeks to allow for construction of a new sanitary sewer line.
The section of the St. Joe Walkway to be closed temporarily begins roughly 1,000 feet west of the intersection of Palm Harbor Parkway and Palm Coast Parkway, then heads west to Club House Drive. This is the portion of the trail that goes between the eastbound and westbound lanes of Palm Coast Parkway, through the tree canopy and past Linear Park. Several shorter trails accessed only from this closed section will also be closed during the construction.
Access to Linear Park from its entrance on Greenway Court will not be restricted or affected by the construction. Both Colbert Lane and the Colbert Lane pathway will remain open during the project.
As an alternate route, pedestrians and bicyclists can take the pathway along westbound Palm Coast Parkway (Northeast side) as they travel between Palm Harbor Drive and Club House Drive. Detour signage will be posted.
The City of Palm Coast Public Works Department/Utility Division has contracted to build the first phase of a sanitary sewer system that will connect to the beachside area and the Beverly Beach sewer system. As part of the project, the contractor will be installing a sanitary sewer force main along Palm Coast Parkway, from Palm Harbor Parkway, west through a portion of the St. Joe Walkway/Linear Park area to the Community Center.
“The city of Palm Coast and the contractor plan to complete this project as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvenience to walkers, runner and bicyclists who use this popular trail,” said Mary Kronenberg, the Utility Division’s project coordinator. “The City apologizes for the inconvenience and asks for the cooperation and patience of residents as this important sewer system upgrade is made.”
