Golf cart joyride; and, Ormond Beach pirates steal treasure map.

Feb. 17

Joyriding

1:04 p.m. — 500 Block of Nova Road. Unarmed burglary and grand theft. The defendants, both juveniles, were arrested after they stole two golf carts from a funeral home’s utility building, according to the police report.

The defendants told police that two other juveniles showed them how to get inside the building, then left. Later, according to reports, the defendants stole the first golf cart, which they say ran out of battery power after about 10 minutes.

That's when they went back and stole the second, and drove it for “a couple of hours,” damaging the roof and removing the roof, after striking a tree branch. The defendants then threw the roof into a ravine.

Feb. 18

X marks the spot

8:54 a.m. — 200 Block of Cardinal Drive. Theft. When the business was closing, employees found a picture frame in the men’s bathroom, displaying a treasure map, had been torn off the wall, according to reports, causing damage.

Additionally, Feb. 16, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., six black and white pirate flags and a doormat with a skull and crossbones was stolen from the property.

According to the report, the flags, doormat and treasure map were all valued at $20 each. Police were told, according to the report, there was surveillance footage that could be viewed at a later date.
