It shouldn't be too much longer before Ormond Beachers have another lunchtime restaurant option. Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches is set to open within the week.
That will happen, according to owner Brent Trieble, once final approval is received from the county and state. Whenever he gets the go-ahead, he says, he'll be ready.
It will be the fourth Jimmy John’s opening in the greater Daytona Beach area since 2008, all of which by Trieble and his family — he, his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law. Their first store was opened in Port Orange. They also have two in Daytona.
Several of Trieble's customers at the other locations had been telling him they wanted an Ormond Beach store, he says. And that got him thinking.
“We had been looking up on Granada (Boulevard),” he said. “We just needed to find the right location. ... We knew we wanted to be up here, in Ormond.”
Trieble purchased the building, at 300 W. Granada Blvd., which he said was formerly a Cunningham Oil and Gas store. As a result, renovations were needed after the purchase last August.
The Ormond Beach store will have a drive-thru, will deliver and, unique to this location, indoor and outdoor seating.
“The whole philosophy with Jimmy is to put out a quality product,” Trieble said. “We bake our own bread ... And it’s fast -- very fast. By the time you pay for your sandwich, we ought to have it done at the other end.”
The goal, Trieble said, is to deliver a customer’s food within 15 minutes of the time they hang up the phone after ordering. The delivery radius will be about one-and-a-half miles from the store.
There restaurant will employ about 30 part-time workers, Trieble added, about 15 of whom will be transferred from other locations.
