The best advice I ever got was not to burn any bridges. Throughout my career, which has spanned 27 years in the tourism industry all over the Southeast, I’ve been so surprised at how many people that I met in the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s and now the ’10s, have reappeared in my life at some point.
Whenever I have changed jobs or career paths, I’ve always been sure to let my employer and co-workers know that I was available to help them if they needed me after I left. Because of this philosophy, when I started my own tourism public relations business, many of my former colleagues became my clients.
Since I’ve been in Flagler County in the last year, I’ve found it interesting how many people I now come into contact with in some capacity are folks that I once knew in my “former life.”
