I once sat in on a recording session with an artist who had recently moved to Seattle to pursue music. After he played, I asked him what it was like to try to make it in the music scene, which is flooded with people trying to make a name for themselves.
Of course, he told me it was hard.
“But sometimes,” he said, “you just have to stop being so comfortable all the time.”
He was talking about taking risks to chase what you want.
Some of the best experiences I’ve ever had have been the ones that were new, and, at first, uncomfortable. That’s what life is, really: a collection of experiences. You may as well make them interesting.
As for that musician, he’s doing great. I’ve since watched him climb his way onto the iTunes charts, and I’m looking forward to the day when I watch him headline a show all the way in Florida.
