Pastel artist Merlyn Jones and acrylic artist Jim Denny will showcase their work in a new show “Art from the Heart,” at Ocean Books and Art, 200 S. Oceanshore Blvd., Flagler Beach. The opening reception will be held 6 p.m. Friday, Na. 4, and the show willl remain until Feb. 28.
“The ‘Art from the Heart’ show will be very different from previous shows because, while both artists focus mainly on nature, they have two entirely different styles, with each bringing a personal message from the heart,” said owner Frank Gromling.
Jones, formerly from Pueblo, Colo. and now a resident of Palm Coast, has exhibited in several juried shows including the Mile High National Exhibition. Her paintings are transforming from a representational style to a more abstract and impressionistic one. She also is working with oil and acrylics using a palette knife, which she finds “freeing and more spontaneous.”
Denny, who once lived in Daytona Beach and attended local schools, journeyed to California, Hawaii and Colorado, returning to Florida to settle in Port Orange. Denny’s art, including a 30” x 60” acrylic on canvas, will be showcased on the Wave Gallery wall that connects all galleries with the bookstore. His art expresses his love of the ocean and surfing, with his unique sense of humor showing through several of his pieces.
