Book bag? More like crook bag

2:25 p.m. -- 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard. Shoplifting. The police were called to the store after two loss-prevention officers detained the suspect while he was attempting to leave without paying for several items, which were concealed in a book bag.

As the suspect was being led back to the store's office, he became “increasingly more aggressive,” according to reports, and charged the loss-prevention officers before fleeing the store.

The loss-prevention officers said they witnessed the suspect climb a wall and head into a nearby apartment complex, where they believe the suspect lives. Officers said the suspect fled to the same apartment complex in the past, during a similar incident.

The apartment complex was notified and staff told police the suspect appeared familiar, but they weren't sure whether or not he was a resident.

The one that got away

4:09 p.m. -- 1500 Block of Granada Boulevard. Shoplifting. Two loss-prevention officers witnessed the suspect conceal a fishing reel under his shirt and leave the store without paying. They told police they attempted to stop the suspect, but he fled to a nearby apartment complex, although a search of the complex yielded no results.

The loss-prevention officers initially declined to file a police report, but one was done for informational purposes. Since the brand of fishing reel couldn’t be determined, the store said it wouldn’t be filing an internal report.
