The theme for the Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas wrestling teams this weekend was the same: Missed placing wrestler by a match.
The Bulldogs and the Pirates competed Friday and Saturday at the 27th-annual Flagler Rotary Invitational wrestling tournament — a wrestling staple in Flagler County that continues to showcase some of the state’s top wrestling program.
Thirty-two teams competed at this year’s event. Flagler Palm Coast finished 10th.
“We’re doing well and continue to improve,” FPC coach Tom Bartolotta said.
Matanzas didn’t have many wrestlers in action because of injuries, according to Pirates coach John White.
“This was a tough tournament,” White said. “Unfortunately we are dealing with some injuries to several key wrestlers.”
FPC’s Jake Kosachiner had the best finish of area wrestlers, finishing in second place in the 120-pound class. He lost in the finals, 4-3.
James Rumph, of Matanzas, finished fourth in the 220-pound class. He lost a 3-2 decision in the consolation finals.
FPC competes in the 5-Star Conference finals at DeLAnd this weekend.
Matanzas will host Senior Night Jan. 23, against Seabreeze.
