Florida Friends for Obama gathered Monday night for a black tie gala Inaugural Ball in honor of President Barack H. Obama, the 44th president of the United States, at the African American Cultural Society, in Bunnell.

Florida Friends for Obama, a community action group based out of Flagler County, was founded by Loyce Allen in 2008.

The ball was a celebration of the president and the work the group has done in the past five years.
The organization’s mission statement is for ordinary people to make an extraordinary contribution in the area of change.

The party was also a celebration of the life and birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“That is so major,” Allen said. “Barack Obama is the first African American president, and Dr. King, it was his sacrifices that led to (Obama’s) presidency. So it is just an awesome time. This inaugural is so much more powerful and meaningful than the first one. It’s full circle.”
