The county took video of the event and is planning to put together a prescribed burn educational package for the community.
Officials said the fire resets the community so that species can stay in tact, it allows them to thrive.
“That ecosystem is home to species like the gopher tortoise, the fire eliminates cover, which is something that they try to avoid," Lagasse said.
Flagler County Land Management has been planning this prescribed fire for several months. “That habitat is a coastal scrub, evolutionarily, it is subject to occasional fire,†said Mike Lagasse, Land Manager for Flagler County.

Allen Loadholtz, of the Florida Division of Forestry, fills the ignition for the prescribed burn.
"On The human end, (the fire) eliminates fuel load that can be dangerous during a wildfire," Lagasse said. "It eliminates the possibility of a rapid spread to houses in the area.â€
