This Weekend: Bicycle art show opens Saturday

Ah, the freedom of the open road! The wind in your face! A unique art show is opening this weekend to capture the experience and meaning of cycling.

The Bicycle Art and Poetry Show opens at both galleries 6 p.m. Saturday, July 13. Poetry winners will read their entries and receive their awards at 7 p.m. at the FCAL gallery.

The winners of the Bicycle Poetry Competition are as follows: First place, Gretchen Fletcher; second place, Harry Messersmith; and third place, Mitzi Coats. Honorable mentions were Maria Alexandra Sayers and Gretchen Fletcher.

All entries, whether they received an award or not, will be placed in display books in both Flagler County Art League and Hollingsworth galleries. Winners’ poems will be mounted for special display. 


Low-cost clinics for pet shots

The SPCA is sponsoring two low-cost, pet-shot clinics this weekend in Flagler County.

The first will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at 204 St. Joe Plaza, and the second will be 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Wickline Park, 800 S. Daytona Ave., Flagler Beach.

Shots will range in cost from $5 to $16. Heartworm prevention and flea control products will be available for purchase. All vaccinations are administered by a licensed veterinarian, clinic is licensed and permitted.

Cash only will be accepted. Call 748-8993 for questions.

Proceeds benefit abandoned animals, donations of dry cat food are appreciated.
