The Flagler County Commission will dedicate an important addition to the Lehigh Trail on Monday: a trailhead with 30 parking spaces, restrooms and a water fountain.
County Commission Nate McLaughlin will be the keynote speaker for the dedication at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 15. The public is invited to the event at the trailhead just north of the eastern end of the Lehigh Trail on Colbert Lane.
“Lehigh Trail is a popular county facility,” Commission Chairman Nate McLaughlin said. “The trailhead will really open it up for more people to enjoy.”
The facility was designed and constructed with funds from a Florida Department of Transportation grant for $600,000. Bean Construction of Holly Hill was the successful bidder to construct the trailhead. The facility was constructed on land owned by the St. Johns River Water Management District through an agreement with Flagler County.
In a separate issue, the Water Management District has agreed to turn over all 3,000 acres of the Graham Swamp Preserve to Flagler County. Currently the County manages the preserve for the Water Management District.
