On her second literacy stop of the summer, Florida First Lady Ann Scott visited Washington Oaks Gardens State Park to read to students as part of her Summer Literacy Adventure.

“It is so important to get kids reading early, before they start school,” she said. “That’s where it all begins.”

The literacy adventure is a partnership with the Department of Environmental Protection and the governor’s office to find parks in Florida with a rich history. The program also teams with Scholastic to provide books for each student in attendance.

“It’s a great partnership to be able to be picked by the program,” said Melissa Clauson, Washington Oaks Gardens park services specialist. “It’s a great opportunity to show off our beautiful park here.”
