A woman accused of chasing a teen with a broken broomstick was arrested Monday on two charges of child abuse and one charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The teen told deputies that Anndra Macklin, 30, came to the Espanola Community Center, where he and two others were playing basketball, just before 10 p.m. She was carrying a broken broomstick.

Macklin told the teens to go home, and they began to argue with her. One of the teens made a joke, which made Macklin angry, the teens said. She turned to a teen who laughed at the joke and pushed him down.

The teen said he was afraid for his safety, so he took Macklin to the ground to prevent any further physical attack. Macklin returned to her feet and chased the teen with the sharp end of the broken broomstick, attempting to strike him as she did.

The teens ranged in age from 12 to 16 years old, according to an arrest report.

Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about intoxicated woman and found the teens and Macklin in the street.

The three teens all gave similar descriptions of the night’s events, as did an adult witness. The teen who was attacked had a small laceration on his ankle from the altercation.

That same teen’s mother said she went to speak with Macklin following the incident, at which point Macklin got into a verbal confrontation with another teen, which soon escalated to a “mutual physical altercation,” according to the arrest report. That teen was not on scene when law enforcement arrived.

Macklin was then arrested for two counts of child abuse. While searching her, deputies found a pill bottle containing, among other pills, 15 Diazepam pills, a controlled substance. Macklin said she had a prescription for the pills, but that it was not with her.

Deputies also noted that Macklin smelled of alcohol as they questioned her.

Macklin was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility, where she remained Wednesday morning on $3,500 bond.
