Miss Palm Coast Myrrhanda Jones, 20, was crowned Miss Florida Saturday, July 13, and will continue on to the Miss America Scholarship Pageant this September, in Atlantic City.
“I am so overwhelmed with joy and love, it’s been a whirlwind of emotions and excitement,” she said on the phone a couple days after winning the crown.
Jones is a student at the University of Florida’s journalism program as a telecommunications major and hopes to pursue a career in television news. She also has a minor in nonprofit organizational leadership and is a member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Delta Delta Delta.
The new Miss Florida is also a member of UF’s Gatorettes and can be seen twirling her baton every game day, just as she did on stage during the talent portion of the pageant. Jones also showed off her twirling skills at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
The platform Jones ran under is Comfort for Kids, Inc., an official 501(c)3 that Jones founded six years ago, when her sister died in an ATV accident. The organization provides services for grieving, injured or ill children.
“I am very blessed to be able to represent Palm Coast at the state and national level,” Jones said.
