For many, the Fourth of July weekend is a relaxing holiday with friends and family.

But for four Palm Coast residents, it was a weekend of intense, stressful martial arts competition in Orlando.

Team Remix, led by five-time world champion Kevin Williams, of Remix Martial Arts Studio, in Palm Coast, competed over two long days of stiff competition. The end result: lots of trophies.

Paul Schettino, senior brown belt, earned his third world title in the boys ages 14-17 brown-black belt world breaking, power hand, followed by two second-place in both continuous and point sparring.

Schettino’s brother, Anthony, placed third in the boys/girls ages 14-17 brown-black belt extreme martial arts, and third place in traditional forms and point fighting.

McKelvey Dietz, a blue belt, placed second in clashed sparring — a new division. Dietz also placed third in point sparring for green-purple belts in the boys/girls ages 7-10 division.

Mathias Daza, a brown belt and Team USA World Karate Championships member, earned Olympic-style metals in the boys/girls ages 10-13 in brown-black belts in musical weapons, extreme martial arts, traditional forms and point sparring.

“Kevin has been an outstanding instructor and great role model for these kids,” said Amanda Dietz. “He’s very blessed and passionate about what he does for these kids to help change their lives for the next generation of today’s youth.”

Williams said he was proud of his team’s performance.

“With discipline, focus and determination, they have the motivation to continue to strive for the best,” he said.
