Amanda Raleigh and Cara Warren are used to playing on the same team, but things were a little different this week at the Go To Goal girls soccer camp at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
Raleigh and Warren went shoulder-to-shoulder during a 1-v-1 drill Monday during the first session of the camp, which runs 5:30-8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The camp is for girls soccer players in grades 7 through 12 and is put on by FPC girls soccer coach Pete Hald.
Hald has run the camp on his own since 2000 (it started in 1998), and this year’s camp features about 20 players — many of which play on the Lady Bulldogs soccer team or for local club teams.
Throughout the week, campers learn the more technical aspects of soccer, such as first-touch skills, dribbling techniques and finishing.
But perhaps the most challenging aspect of the camp is the heat, as temperatures remained in the 90s Monday evening.
Hald will begin his 23rd year as the Lady Bulldogs soccer coach in the fall.
