Lambert named to Class 5A 1st Team; Mittel gets honorable mention
Matanzas softball infielder/pitcher Morgan Lambert was named to the Class 5A 1st Team, according to Miracle Sports.

Lambert helped lead the Lady Pirates to a second-place finish in the St. Johns River Athletic Conference and a second consecutive state playoff appearance. She will be a senior in the fall.

Sam Mittel also was named to the Class 8A honorable mention. Mittel was the first baseman for the Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs. Mittel will play college softball at Roger Williams University, in Bristol, R.I., a Division III NCAA program that competes in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Miracle Sports was founded in 2008 and began ranking high school softball teams and players in Florida. It was previously done by the Florida Sports Writers Association. Miracle Sports is an independent, not-for-profit, volunteer organization made up of 19 current and former high school, college and travel softball coaches.

Hold the clubs: Runners to invade Palm Harbor
Golfers at Palm Harbor Golf Club will take a break Aug. 10, as runners will take over the golf course for Palm Coast’s Summer Shot Gun, a four-mile run that will take place on the cart paths and fairways.

It’s time to register for the race and for the kids fun run.

The Summer Shot Gun 4 Mile Run will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the kids fun run will begin at 8 a.m. The race is part of the year-round Palm Coast Running Series.

Overall first-place male and female winners, as well as first-, second- and third-place runners in 15 age groups, will be given awards immediately following the races. The race will be professionally timed and scored by Red Pointer Productions.

Participants may also pre-register in person, through Aug. 8, at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway N.E. (open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). In-person registration and packet pickup will be available at the Community Center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 9, or on race day at Palm Harbor Golf Club, 20 Palm Harbor Drive, beginning at 6 a.m.

Entry fees and pre-registration deadlines are as follows:
$25 mail-in (closes Thursday, Aug. 1)
$25 online and in person (closes 5 p.m. Aug. 8)
$30 in person (8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 9)
$30 day of race, cash or checks only (6 a.m. Aug. 10)
Those who pre-register by Aug. 8 will receive a tech shirt and goody bag.
