As Nike announced this week that it was severing its ties with Livestrong-brand shoes and apparel at the end of the year, another brand targeted to help Flagler County’s own was born.
CATSTRONG has been started by Brittney Forte, who played soccer at Flagler Palm Coast High School. She has decided to sell lime-green bracelets with the term “CATSTRONG” written on them in support of FPC assistant girls soccer coach Cat Bradley, who continues to recover from liver transplant surgery.
For $5 a pop, all of the money will go to Bradley’s family to help pay for medical and travel expenses, gas for Cat to go to and from clinic on Mondays and Thursdays and any other expenses the family might endure.
“As many of you know, Cat is not one to stretch her hand out when in need of help. She's more accustomed to stretching out her hand to others in need,” Forte wrote on a Facebook page.
Anyone interested in purchasing a CATSTRONG bracelet can contact Forte through Facebook or via email at [email protected].
It’s just $5. A little support from a lot of people can go an even longer way. Be strong for Cat. #CATSTRONG
Florida Force win Champions League title
It’s not quite the Champions League title that Bayern Munich just won, but the U16 Florida Force team is one of the best in Florida.
The Force won the eight-team Florida Champions League last week, topping Lee County Strikers, 6-4, in the championship game.
Miracle Porter, Karen Rodriguez, Erica Belforti, Jessica Bonenclark and Alana Shew-a-Tjon were named FCL All-Stars.
Porter was also named MVP and won the Golden Boot award for leading goal scorer. Florida Force, as a team, won the Fair Play award for being the least penalized team.
Raising the cup: Whalers victorious
The Whalers drank from the Flagler Cup last week, topping the Coyotes, 4-2, in the Flagler Roller Hockey League championship.
Mike Scavarda was the winning goalie, saving 29 of the 31 shots he faced. It’s Scavarda’s second consecutive league title.
Andrew Kemper, Mike Campanaro (two) and Tim Perham scored the Whalers’ four goals. Mike Banks and Steve Lloyd scored the Coyotes’ two goals.
