Flag Football 4 Fun all-stars take second in national tourney
The Category 4 Storm (U12) all-star flag football team, which is a product Atlantic Storm Sports, took second place over Memorial Day Weekend in Apopka in the Flag Football 4 Fun national championships.
The team went 4-1 in tournament play, including going undefeated in its age bracket, outscoring opponents 149-64. The team eventually lost in the championship to Ryan Football (Miami).
The Category 4 team defeated the Ryan team earlier in the tournament.
This was the fifth tournament the team has competed in since 2011. Atlantic Storm Sports has three all-star teams: Category 3 (U10), Category 4 (U12) and Category 5 (U14).

The Category 4 team includes A.J. Aparicio, Chris Hardigree, Gabe Posadas, Jordan Belle, Josh Camic, Savion Teasley, Timothy McCue, Tymothe Rosenthal, Wes Magnell and coaches T.J. Rosenthal, Chris Magnell, Tim McCue, Victor Aparicio and Lukas Oxhammar.
Comeback men: Team Flagler softball wins tourney
They might be older, but the members of the Team Flagler 60-and-over senior softball team still swing the bat like youngsters. Team Flagler, which features players from the Flagler County Senior Softball League, took first place in Bracket B in the Florida Half-Century Senior Softball tournament, held June 1-2, in Tampa.
Team Flagler entered the tournament ranked No. 10 in Florida (out of 42 teams).
They lost the opening game to Classic Logos of West Palm Beach, 16-11. But Flagler rebounded and went on to win three straight games, including topping an undefeated Ocala team, 10-6, in the championship.
Next month, Team Flagler will travel to Auburn to compete in the ISSA US Southern Championships July 12-14, before returning to Auburndale for the August FHCSS tournament.
Pitcher Jim Zgorzelski went 8-for-11 in the tournament with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Catcher/pitcher Jim Jividen went 8-for-9 with six RBIs and six runs scored.
Flagler hit for a team batting average of .558.
‘Go to Goal’ soccer camp: July 29 to Aug. 2
Flagler Palm Coast High School girls soccer coach Pete Held will hold his annual “Go to Goal” soccer camp July 29 through Aug. 2.
The camp, which is for girls players in grades seventh through 12th, will be 5:30-8 p.m. July 29 through Aug. 2, at Flagler Palm Coast High School.
Cost is $100 and includes T-shirt, juggling competition, 3-on-3 and 4-on-4 tournaments and a pizza party on the final day of camp.
