Three local nonprofits awarded five graduates a combined $4,500 to get them started on the next leg of their academic careers.

Elks give $3,000 to college-bound Ormond Beachers
Ormond Beach Elks Lodge 2193 Exalted Ruler Jackie Curtis attended a Seabreeze High School awards ceremony to present two $1,500 scholarships to Ormond Beach students Kyleigh Rojas and Jessica Marz, for high academic performance.
Rojas is the granddaughter of lodge member Dan Huck.
Lions give two students scholarship boosts
The Ormond by the Sea Lions Club presented Angela Diefendorf, from Seabreeze High School, and Monica Moss, from Mainland, each $500 Al Weeks Sr. Memorial Scholarships.
Diefendorf plans to use the funds to pursue an agriculture degree at Daytona State College. Moss will attend Bethune Cookman College, for business and marketing.
The students also attend a Lions Club meeting in May to speak with members about their goals.

Kiwanians get giving: $500 to Seabreeze grad
The Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach awarded a $500 scholarship to Seabreeze High School’s Kaitlyn Meyer, four-year member and current president of Seabreeze’s Kiwanis-sponsored Key Club.
Also a member of the National Honor Society, Meyer maintained a 4.3 grade point average and will attend the University of Florida, for psychology, after summer.
The Kiwanis Club of Ormond Beach meets two Thursdays per month at the Anderson-Price Memorial Building, 42 N. Beach St. Its next meeting is noon Thursday, June 27.
