A former Flagler Beach Police Officer who was charged with attempted murder earlier this year has been released on bail, according to St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office records.
Nathaniel David Juratovac, 40, has been in the St. Johns County Detention Center since March, awaiting trial after he was arrested by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly shooting Jared Parkey, a Flagler County firefighter, during a road-rage incident in St. Augustine.
Juratovac’s bond was set at $300,000. He was released on June 21, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office’s website.
During the incident, Parkey sustained at least two gunshot wounds and was airlifted to the hospital. He was treated and released the following morning.
According to a St. Johns County Sheriff's Office report, Juratovac brake-checked Parkey for following too closely behind. The two then began to drive in an aggressive manner.
Parkey later admitted that he threw a water jug at Juratovac's car. A witness stated at the scene the night of the incident that both Parkey and Juratovac collided and pulled off to the side of the road. The witness said that once the cars came to a stop, Juratovac exited his vehicle, walked over to the driver's side of Parkey's vehicle, and shot him.
Juratovac awaits trial on the attempted first-degree murder charge. A felony pretrial hearing is currently set for 8:30 a.m. July 18, according to the St. Johns County Clerk of Courts website.
