Several members of the Flagler Palm Coast High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps Flight 936 were called out through prose the night of March 9, at the group's annual Dining Out.

In unison, they saluted the mess and then drank from the grog bowl. From the expressions on their faces — and the occasional chewing — it was obvious the contents of the bowl were not pleasant, nor were they supposed to be.

The grog bowl is a punishment for those who have committed infractions against the mess.

Dining Out is a traditional military function which spouses, friends and civilians are invited to attend. The event is an opportunity for high school students to see a formal military function.

Calvin Grant, U.S. Army Retired Sargeant and school resource office at Flagler Palm Coast, spoke at the event, which was also attended my several members of the Matanzas High School Army Junior ROTC.
