FPC SGA: Kiss a pig
Why would a teacher purposely kiss a pig? There could be personal reasons, but in this case, it's a motivation for students to raise money for a cause.

Kiss a Pig is a Flagler Palm Coast High School Student Government Association Relay For Life fundraiser.

Teachers were asked to volunteer to raise money in their classrooms by any means possible. The teacher who collects the most will then reward the students by volunteering to kiss a pig April 5, at the next Positive Behavior Support event.

The fundraiser is also inspired by FPC faculty, staff and students who have been hit hard by cancer. Proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in the name of the school.

Last year the FPC SGA Relay Team raised just over $800; the goal this year is $1,000.

Some of the teachers participating in the Kiss a Pig project are the Dean’s Office and Carla Taylor, Johanna Davis, Jill Roos, Kerri Sands, Janice Monsanto, Debbie Ellis, Debbie Couch, Sheila Knighton, Lorie Savoca, Natalia Hubstenberger, Heidi Alves, Marlyn Tangney, Per Berg, Jodee Soltes, Christle Rafool, Diane Tomko, Steve Poppe, Dave Halliday , Frank DiMasi, Mimi Graves, Holly Vaniglia-Mitchell and Courtney VandeBunte.

Science rules at Bunnell Elementary
The first-grade students at Bunnell Elementary School have received their shipments of live insects.

As students in Annette Thompson’s class are studying about life cycles, they will be observing butterflies, ladybugs, praying mantises, and chicken eggs developing in their classroom.

Mary Narin's first-grade class is raising butterflies and ladybugs. The caterpillars have grown from just a quarter of an inch to about one inch long. They are now in the chrysalis stage and are transforming into painted lady butterflies.

Svetlana Panameno's class has been conducting experiments to learn about calcium carbonate. The children observed an egg shell disappear last week when they placed an egg in a bag of vinegar.

Students will be hypothesizing whether the combination of calcium carbonate and
vinegar can cause a bone to bend.
