The Philippine American Association held an inauguration ball at the Portuguese American Club to induct its new officers. They are President Teresita Zuza, Vice President Danny Gumato, Vice President Aida Seguritan, Secretary Edna Dy, Treasurer Reynaldo Mayo, Audit Jacinta Fermin and Sgt.-At-Arms Ed Gutierez. The Board of Directors is Dr. Rolly Casis, Fe Batan, Ofelia Miller, Lita Samaniego, Carl Reynolds, Sally Siroy, Dr. Nena Raval, Fred Reodica and Bill Zuza.
Student Brendan DiCerbo receives 'Power of One' Award
Brendan DiCerbo, an eighth-grade student at Indian Trails was recently given the "Power of One" award by the Flagler County School Board.
“Brendan DiCerbo has exemplified how one person can make a difference in the lives of others,” said his teacher Dana Hausen.
Some of DiCerbo’s accomplishments include leading a Community Problem Solvers team that addressed the needs of exceptional education students, the Indian Trails ARISS radio contact and creating an afterschool STEM club.
Rotary Club expands dictionary program to the Philippines
The Rotary Club of Flagler County, with a matching grant from Rotary International District 6970, has donated 2,000 dictionaries for graduating elementary school students in Plaridel, Philippines.
"Rotary is an international service organization, and the Rotary Club of Plaridel has been a long time sister club of ours," said Rick Staly, club president.
This is the latest joint project undertaken in the last few years. Previous joint international projects provided micro-loans for startup businesses, shoes for children and eye glasses. This is the first time the group has expanded the dictionary program outside of Flagler County.
Washington Oaks seeks love letters to the earth
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park is asking residents to write lover letters to the earth. The letters will be displayed 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20 and 21, at the Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park Earth Day Celebration.
All ages are encouraged to write letters on recycled paper and mail them to Melissa Kafel, Washington Oaks Park, 6400 N. Oceanshore Blvd., Palm Coast, Fla., 32137.
