Mercy! FPC routs Mainland in softball
Flagler Palm Coast scored six runs in the third inning and another 11 runs in the fourth en route to an 18-1 mercy-rule win over Mainland on Wednesday.
Anna Hardy (2-0) was the winning pitcher. Onesti Stevens went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs. Courtney Williams and Destiny Kelly each went 3-for-4 with one RBI apiece. Alicia Smith also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Perfection: U12 Flagler Fury finish season 13-0
The U12 Flagler Fury boys basketball travel team competed March 2-3 in the River City Basketball Winter League championships, finishing the season a perfect 13-0.
In the semifinals, the Fury won 47-18. Then in the championship on Sunday, the Fury won 52-37. The boys have come a long way since last season, when they didn’t make it to the semis.
“This is the most dedicated, supportive and best set of parents and kids we ever had,” said coach Vicki DiMaria. “It is not only their talent, but their teamwork that has gotten them so far.”
Half the players are in sixth grade at Bunnell Elementary School, and the others are fifth- and sixth-graders attending Wadsworth, Old Kings, Belle Terre and Phoenix Academy.
Pfleger takes third at jiu jitsu competition
Anthony Pfleger, 7, of Palm Coast, took third place March 9 at the COPA America Jiu Jitsu Submission Championship competition, in Lakeland.
Anthony trains at Life Martial Arts, in Palm Coast, and holds a yellow belt in jiu jitsu and a green belt in karate. Anthony’s sistsers, Michelina and Gianna, also compete in martial arts.
Belle Terre Bobcats 5K: April 27
Belle Terre Elementary School will host a 5K race on April 27. Check-in is 7 a.m.; race starts at 8:30. The race will be professionally timed by Red Pointer Running. Cost is $10 for faculty/students and $20 for others.

Reel deal: Flagler Sportfishing Club seeks sponsors
The Flagler Sportfishing Club is seeking sponsors and vendors for 17th-annual Spring Classic Fishing Tournament, which will be April 27 and will benefit the homeless animals of Second Chance Rescue.

Ace it ain’t so: South takes third straight over North in Grand Haven golf tourney
Men golfers from the south region of Grand Haven captured their third straight title over the North Team, 38-34.
Teams are based on residency north or south of clubhouse and Village Center, and the tournament is played over three days in Ryder Cup format.
The south led 11-7 after the four-ball event, and then led 20.5-15.5 after alternate shot going into Sunday’s singles event — the final day.
Although the North won single matches 18.5 to 17.5, the deficit was too much to close, and the South Team remained champions.
Bill Hartwell, of the North squad, aced the eighth and won his individual match over Art Fadden.
Sam Cousino and Bernie Hollenbeck were the captains of the South Team. Rich DeCola and Bill Holland managed the North Team.
