Bogging in Bunnell has been jam-packed every night this week. But the gathering is not for the typical mudding activities; the gathering is thanks to New Way Christian Fellowship, a Palm Coast church that is focused on blessing the community through Freedom Fest.

Freedom Fest is a weeklong event that features giveaways including bill payments, Walmart gift cards and gas cards. During Tuesday’s Family Camo Night, household appliances were given away, and furniture was raffled off.

“We just wanted to come out and do something for people,” said the Rev. Kim Summerlin. “A lot of people think that church is all about themselves and the money. Well our church, and our God, is not like that. We wanted to bless a community, and God told us to come out here and bless them.”

Freedom Fest was made possible through members of the congregation, which collectively raised and donated close to $40,000 in giveaways, and through partnership with businessman Joe Anderson, who donated a large tent and a semi-truck.

Anderson, who was involved in tent revivals as a youth said, “I personally believe that there has never been a time in the United State when we need revival, than we need in this country now.”

But the Rev. Richard Summerlin said that with an event like this he doesn’t want to come across too churchy. And that is why the preaching is limited to 20 minutes per night.

“We just wanted help people, love people and bring them to Jesus,” he said.

Freedom Fest will conclude 10 a.m. Sunday, March 24, with a full church service, at 7447 W. State Road 100, Bunnell.
