March 27

You again?

5:31 p.m. — Intersection of Neptune Avenue and Ocean Shore Boulevard. Driving with suspended license. The defendant made several lane changes without signaling, including one that made the Ormond Beach police officer hit his “brakes hard,” according to the report.

The officer was able to see the driver’s face through the side mirror and recognized him from a prior encounter. The officer initiated a traffic stop, during which the defendant told him his license wasn’t valid, that another officer had previously let him go and asked if this officer would do the same.

The defendant’s license was suspended Dec 12, 2011, and he had 11 pages of driver’s license suspensions, from failure to pay violations to failure to appear violations. There were 27 suspensions on the defendant's record, the officer noted in the report.

The defendant was arrested and transported to Volusia County Branch Jail.

Bit off more than she could chew

7:06 p.m. — 100 Block of South Nova Road. Civil complaint. A woman began eating her meal, which included chicken on a stick. She took a bite of the first piece of chicken, and put it aside because it tasted odd, she told police. Then, she took a bite from the second piece, and bit into something hard that chipped her tooth, she said.

The woman then contacted the restaurant's manager and asked if the restaurant had insurance. The manager gave her a business card and she told him she wasn’t going to pay for her meal, at which point the manager called the police.

The woman paid for the meal after the officer told her she would have to, and could contact an attorney later if she wanted. The woman showed the officer the tooth she claimed was chipped, and he reported seeing nothing “out of the ordinary.” The woman also told the officer she swallowed whatever chipped the tooth.

The woman had eaten three plates of food before complaining about a chipped tooth, the manager told police.
