Law enforcement officials are investigating a Thursday night shooting in Ormond Beach.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to 20 Eloise Circle, after receiving a call from a woman who said someone was attempting to break into her home.

The call was received at approximately 6:09 p.m.

When deputies arrived on scene, there was a woman outside the front door who, according to reports, pointed an object at the deputies that appeared to be a weapon.

Deputy Omar Bello, 28, fired one shot at the woman, in response to the "possible threat," Sheriff's Office officials said, hitting her in the shoulder. The woman was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach to be treated for the "non-life-threatening injury."

Bello, who has been with the Sheriff's Office since November 2011, will be placed on administrative leave with pay, which officials say is customary following deputy involved shootings.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating the shooting, according to standard protocol.

The Sheriff's Office believes the woman shot was the woman who called 911. Her name is still being withheld by the Sheriff's Office and no intruder was found.
