The following is a statement from State Rep. Travis Hutson:
The bill which would ban texting while driving has passed the House of Representatives and is currently waiting on a Senate vote after an amendment was added by the House this week.
This amendment strengthens the bill and protects the privacy of Florida’s citizens by only allowing phone records to be used in cases where a death or injury occurs.
I look forward to this good legislation, which will increase the safety of Florida’s roads, receiving a favorable vote from the Senate and being signed into law by the governor. I have no doubt that there is plenty of time over the next two days to get this done.
