Bulldogs baseball team falls to Lake Brantley in regional quarterfinals
Delayed three days because of relentless rain and soggy playing conditions, Lake Brantley topped Flagler Palm Coast, 2-0, on Saturday in the Class 8A regional quarterfinals.

FPC coach Jordan Butler, in his first season as FPC’s head coach, said there were many factors that impacted the game, many of which were not in his control.

“But in the end, I think our guys did a great job of making adjustments and handling adversity,” Butler said.

FPC hitters were stymied all night by Lake Brantley starting pitcher Mitchell Jordan, who tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout.

FPC (13-12) will bring back six of its nine starters next season, including the entire pitching staff.

“There were some rough spots this year and some friction to doing it a different way, but in the end, I think our guys bought in, and I am excited for the future,” Butler said, adding that other talented players will be coming up for next season.

Butler said the team will take a few weeks off before beginning offseason workouts.

“The only thing we can do is keep our nose to the grindstone and just work at becoming the best we can be between now and then, and that’s exactly what we are going to do,” he said.

Steelers’ Larry Foote coming back to Palm Coast as part of NFL Play 60
Larry Foote, a two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker on the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be back in Palm Coast this summer. It won’t be for vacation, either.

Foote will be back in town as part of Play 60, the NFL’s national youth health and fitness campaign, focused on making the next generation of kids the most active and healthy by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes per day.

The camp has been organized by Sam Sword, former football player at the University of Michigan and in the NFL.

It is open to youths age 8 to 18.

The NFL Play 60 camps will be structured to provide a balanced mix of on-the-field-drills and good, old-fashioned fun, Sword said.

Activities, while challenging, are designed to be appropriate for the ages and the skill levels of the players.

“Our staff will stress perseverance, discipline, work ethic and dedication,” Sword added.

The first camp will be June 15, the second July 27. Foote is scheduled to attend the June 15 camp.

Registration forms can be downloaded online by searching “First Church of Palm Coast” on Facebook. All registration forms should be returned to 1 Lewiston Court, Palm Coast, Fla., 32137.

Additional locations to pick up registration forms are Palm Harbor Academy, Flagler County Public Library, Pro Sports and Winn-Dixie.

Space is limited to the first 150 youths. The first 75 to register will receive an NFL Play 60 shirt. All participants will receive an I Pledge to Play 60 certificate.
