City Repertory Theatre will open its new show, “The Lion in Winter,” 7:30 p.m. May 17.

The show, written by James Goldman, is an Oscar-winning movie that brings Julia Davidson Truilo back to the CRT stage as the acid-tongued, wily Eleanor of Aquitaine, who is the wife, mistress and mother of kings on two continents. Truilo is joined by John Pope, as the eloquent, growling Henry ll, whose fierce and cunning demeanor forged a united England as the powerhouse of European history.

Together, the two characters fill the stage with wit and whimsy as they plot and maneuver to choose Henry's successor to the throne. Will it be Richard the Lionheart, played by Bruce Popielarski; the conniving Geoffrey, played by John Birney; or the bumbleheaded John, played by Jonathan Guillot, who rises to the crown? Or will Henry's beautiful mistress, Alais, played by Kaylee Rotunno, bear Henry a new heir? Or will the manipulative young French King Philip, played by Brett Cunningham, ruin it all?

Directed by John Sbordone, the show will run 7:30 p.m. May 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 and 2 p.m. May 19, at 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite B207.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Visit www.crtpalmcoast.com or call 585-9415.

Poppy Drive is back

The Buddy Poppy Campaign is a national program to distribute the poppy, which is the official memorial flower of the VFW. The poppy is not sold; it is exchanged for a contribution.

Post Cmdr. Lorenzo Nacci emphasized the point that all money donated by the public stays in Flagler County and is used to assist with veterans’ needs.
