+ Pizza Hut sponsors event tickets for Flagler schools

Pizza Hut franchisee group CFL Pizza, Inc. has signed on for the third year in a row to fund the ticket stock program, this time for more than 2.9 million tickets, to be used at 130 middle and high schools. The participating districts are Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia counties.

The eight school districts will share the net proceeds of the advertising agreement to support their athletic programs. The revenue sharing is based on the size of a district’s student enrollment. Flagler County High Schools, Matanzas and Flagler Palm Coast, will receive 45,000 tickets at no cost and expect to receive an advertising revenue of approximately $700.00. This revenue will support athletic needs at the high schools.

Ticket holders attending football, basketball, concert, and other school events will walk away from events with a coupon redeemable at participating CFL Pizza Hut restaurants. For Pizza Hut, the program meets their good community partner goals.

+ Sheriff’s Palm Coast Precinct Opens in City Walk

Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre officially opened the newly relocated Palm Coast precinct Friday morning in a ribbon-cutting ceremony assisted by city and county officials.

The full-service precinct was relocated from an office front on North Old Kings Road to the new site at 160 Cypress Point Parkway in Suite C-107. The expanded office space will be staffed Monday through Friday by a full time Sheriff’s deputy and volunteers of the Sheriff’s Citizen Observer program. Manfre has added a full time Records Clerk who will be able to respond to requests for reports and traffic crashes. The Sheriff’s Traffic, Motors Unit and Community Outreach Unit will also be operating out of these offices.

The new precinct is about 2,600 square feet in size or about double the size of the previous office. The move is expected to save the agency about $13,000 on rent annually

+ Chase leads to arrest of two men connected to burglary

Two Daytona Beach residents were arrested Friday afternoon in Volusia County and charged with burglary in a break-in of a Palm Coast home earlier in the day.

Michael O’hara Jones Jr., 18, and Key’Shaun Ronald Eugene Martin Jr., 16, were being held in the Volusia County Jail on charges of burglary and grand theft filed by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Flagler deputies received a call at 12:39 p.m. Friday from the Palm Coast homeowner who apparently interrupted the burglars as they were leaving her home on Ethan Allen Drive. The homeowner was able to give deputies a description of the burglars’ vehicle and a portion of the vehicle license plate.

As the burglars fled, the homeowner followed their yellow Mustang down East Hampton Drive until she lost sight of them when they turned on Ethan Allen Lane.

Flagler deputies located the burglars traveling eastbound on State Road 100 and followed them as they turned south on I-95 toward Volusia County. Deputies reported the Mustang was traveling at a speed of about 90 mph on the interstate until they exited the interstate on Old Dixie Highway and headed east toward Ormond Beach.

The burglars eluded Flagler deputies who called off their search when Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies became involved. The burglars and their vehicle were eventually located at Walmart in Holly Hill and were taken into custody by Volusia County deputies.

Initial reports indicated at least one of the burglars had a gun in his possession.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.

Detectives with the Flagler Beach Police Department are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who wore an ape mask during an attempted robbery.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, the suspect approached a man at the ATM machine at the SunTrust bank at 323 Moody Blvd., police said.

The suspect, described by police as a white male about 6-feet tall with a thin build, was wearing khaki pants, a black T-shirt, and a gorilla/Planet of the Apes mask. He approached the victim and demanded his money.

The victim was startled when he saw the subject wearing the mask and punched the suspect on the left side of his face or head, police said.

The victim told police that he may have injured the suspect, who may now have a black eye or other bruising on the left side of the face.

Anyone with information about this incident or a person who may own a similar mask is asked to call Detective L. Williams at 585-2626 or Sgt. Bill Shamp at 931-8284.
