Junior golf tourney coming to Palm Harbor
The United States Specialty Sports Association’s Junior Golf Tour will be coming to the Palm Harbor Golf Club June 21-23, tourism officials announced last week.
Luanne Santangelo, the city’s parks and recreation director, as well as Casey Ryan, product development manager for the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates, met with Matt Dunn, president aod CEO of The Dunn Agency LLC, during the National Association Sports Commissions symposium in Louisville, Ky.
The rest is history.
USSSA, headquartered in Kissimmee, is the world's largest multisport athletic organization. Founded in 1968, USSSA has grown to more than 3.7 million participants, competing in 13 nationally sanctioned sports.
The Dunn Agency partnered with USSSA Golf in 2012 and is building the USSSA golf brand in Florida.
The Dunn Agency's focus is to offer affordable, competitive tournaments for junior golfers who are developing their game at an early age and to fill a void for high school golfers who do not play outside of the high school golf season.
“After meeting the team at Kemper Sports at Palm Harbor, we wasted no time in making a decision to move forward,” Dunn said.
The tournament is open to both boys and girls in the following age groups: 9-11, 12-14 and 15-18.
These 36-hole tournaments (18- hole tournaments for the 9-11 age group) will offer a competitive experience for junior golfers.
Friday’s activities will include check-in, a putting contest, and practice rounds with Round 1 beginning 7 a.m. Saturday. vFinal rounds will commence on Sunday with an awards presentation at 2:30 p.m.
Registration ends June 14.
