A 19-year-old Ormond Beach man tried to bring a loaded gun through security at Daytona Beach International Airport.

Thomas Suddard was charged with carrying a concealed weapon or firearm Wednesday, a felony charge, after a Transportation Security Administration officer saw the gun in Suddard’s bag as it passed through the x-ray machine.

Suddard told authorities he inherited the gun, a .32 caliber Colt semi-automatic pistol with nine live rounds inside, from his grandfather and forgot it was in the bag.

Both Suddard and the gun were checked through law enforcement systems, and neither were flagged for wants or warrants.

Suddard was scheduled to fly to Newark, by way of Atlanta, but missed his flight due to questioning.

The gun and ammunition were collected as evidence.
